He has previously held positions at the University of California, Northwestern University, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His current work in progress is The Collapse of All Authority: A New History of the Rise of the West and the Origins of Modern Economic Growth. Goldstone's work has received awards from the American Sociological Association, the Historical Association, the International Studies Association, the J.S. Guggenheim Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation.
