ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- Kate Delaney is on a girls' night out when she is propositioned by a sleazy guy in a Melbourne bar. A promising journalist with a sharp mind and keen tongue, she cuts him down to size and thinks no more of it. The Guy, however, seethes and decides to have his revenge – and Kate finds herself brutally assaulted and stuffed into a car boot being driven up the Hume Highway. Meanwhile, her friends and partner are worried – where is she? As the days pass and the police investigate her disappearance, Kate is fighting to retain her sanity and survive… A simple premise elevated by the gripping style and sense of pervasive fear, and although there is one of those coincidences at the end which isn't quite necessary, the well-drawn characters are certainly believable. I picked the book up and basically didn't put it down until the end! Lindy
