New in 2020, Fanous is a three-level method for Arabic language teaching that targets 5+-year old students growing in a foreign – Non-Arabic environment.  It covers A1.1, A1.2 and A2 levels from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Fanous is an original, dynamic and task-based method that focuses on students’ area of interest. Easy to use, its pragmatic contents and slow spiral progression enables students to quickly develop the skills required.

Fanous presents original stories in modern Arabic, staging Nour and Sami, two young pupils and their genie-of-the-lamp friend. The latter being a funny and lovable character directly inspired by the Arabian Nights with its magic touch and happy ending.

Stories look like graphic novels to promote dialogue and direct speech. They address a concrete theme inspired by everyday life and introduce in the context all the vocabulary and language skills that will be dwelt on all along the chapter, in oral activities suggested in the form of sketches, in reading games, reading of separate words, in exercises of written expression and initiation exercises to grammar and conjugation.

Songs and original rhymes offer the opportunity to review the vocabulary and the idiomatic expressions in a funny and artistic context. One last section aligned with the theme of each story suggests a cultural window on the Arab world through authentic documents and pictures. Finally, a class project that gives meaning to learning and stimulates students.

Fanous level 1 offers four working tools:

1.    A textbook (available in an enhanced digital version) which comprises six chapters with six stories in the form of graphic novels, oral and written activities, songs and rhymes, one cultural page and an illustrated dictionary that takes up all the vocabulary of the year.
2.     A digital guide that explains the educational approach, explores the stories, describes the preparatory actions, provides the answer key, organizes class projects, develops numerous cultural commonalities and highlights linguistic characteristics between literary Arabic and different dialects from the Arab world, based on the different backgrounds of the students.
3.     Downloadable audio tracks that contain recordings of the stories and the songs in singing version and karaoke version and rhymes.
4.     A workbook that suggests for each letter of the Arabic alphabet systematic exercises of phonetics, reading and calligraphy. This workbook is common to all three levels and enables the teacher to choose the right time to start systematic learning of the reading and writing and establishes its own progression, regardless of the textbook.
